Today's Sailing NewsMatch Racing: Bermuda Gold CupThe much anticipated Bermuda Gold Cup, the concluding event of the Swedish Match tour, is underway. 16 unseeded sailors are competing to advance and race against the 8 seeded sailors. The best winning ration on day 1 belonged to current Collegiate Sailor of the year Dalton Began, Dane Jes Gram Hansen and American Andy Horton at 3-1. Chris Larson and Neville Whittey finishes 2-2 in this group. The other group is led by 4 skippers at 2-1. They are: Chris Dickson, Sten Mohr, Murray Jones and Kelvin Harrap. 4 sailors from each group will advance. The qualifying rounds are scheduled to end today. Today's Sailing NewsTimes Clipper UpdateLeader: Bristol Clipper wins
by 3 hours 2001 Key West Race WeekOne of sailing's major regattas, Key West Race Week, expects a record turnout. Race week dates are: 15-19 January. Several of the larger classes will be one design in format. The Farr 40's expect 35 boats. They will use this as the second leg of their Admirals Cup trials. The One Design 35's expect 20 to 25. The IMS fleet should have a better turnout. IMS entries will include: Esmeralda, Sea Hawk and Idler and a pair of CM 60's. The big boat PHRF fleet will have Magnitude which competed on the Great Lakes this summer. There is an entry limit of 300, with the deadline for entry 8 December @ 1700 eastern.
