Today's Sailing NewsFarr 40 Admirals Cup TrialsThe US Sailing Committee that selects the Admirals Cup has hit upon a 2 stage trial process for the Farr 40 class. Part 1 of the trials will be held 30 November to 4 December. Host will be Storm Trysail Yacht Club in Miami FL. 7 inshore races and a 150 mile offshore race are scheduled. The six inshore scores will be weighted @ .5 per race. The offshore race will be weighted @ 2. The second part will utilize the annual Key West race week as the venue. Also an offshore contest from Key West to Fort Lauderdale will be sailed. Again the inshore races will be weighted @ .5 per race. The offshore will be weighted at 3.0. 20 to 25 boats are expected to sail the series, with 6 to 10 teams expected to have a real shot at the 1 Admirals Cup berth. BT Challenge UpdateLeader: Save the Children Location: South of Bermuda in the Atlantic Ocean Best 24 hour run: Norwich Union 210 miles Current Conditions: After skirting Hurricane Michael fleet is sailing in Force 7 SE winds. Forecast: Switching northerly and dying to light and variable.

Today's Sailing NewsTimes Clipper UpdateLeader: Plymouth Clipper Location: Near Cape Finisterre/NW Spain Best 24 hour run: Leeds Clipper 158 miles Current Conditions: Easterly winds 12 knots. Forecast: Switching southerly and getting lighter. Volvo Ocean Race NewsNews Corporation, the media conglomerate that owns Fox, will sponsor a 2 boat entry in the Volvo Ocean Race. The News Corporation syndicate will be managed by Ross Field Yachting and skippered by Britain's Jez Fanstone. Watch captains will be Steve Cotton and Neal Mcdonald. Training will be conducted on Grant Dalton's ex Merit Cup. Farr will design the new boat, to be built at Cookson's in Auckland. Already building at Cookson's are two new boats for Knut Frostrad's Norwegian team Djuice Dragons. The boats are being designed by Laurie Davidson. Assa Abloy's new Volvo 60's will be built by Green Marine of Lymington England. They will be Farr designs. The next competitive outing for the Volvo 60's will be the annual 630 mile Sydney to Hobart race. Boats from the Ilbruk syndicate, News Corporation, Team Rudiger and a Hong Kong team are expected to compete.
