The Race: Team Adventure

The third of 3 Ollier designed catamarans will be launched by the end of this month. Team Adventure will then be able to take to the water as the second American entry in The Race.

Team Adventure will be different from Club Med and Code 1. Differences include more vertical transoms, farther forward steering wheels, and a different interior layout. Team Adventure also received bow modifications after Club Med's troubles.

An additional difference is that Team Adventure is being built at the JVM yard in Cherbourg France which is located in the Normandy region of France. Cherbourg is on the north coast of France facing England. From Cherbourg the catamaran will motor to Vannes, France to receive it's spars.

Then it'll be onto sea trials. Skipper Cam Lewis has selected about half of his crew. The team will have co-navigators, Larry Rosenfield and Jean Yves Bernet. French sailor Jacques Vincent will serve as watch captain. The sail program will be under the care of multi hull ace Randy Smyth and veteran ocean sailor Brian Hancock. Sails will be Cuben Fiber except for the Solent Jib which will be 3DL/Carbon. French sailor Lionel Lemonchios is in charge of installing winch systems and deck hardware. Construction Manager Halvard Mabire, Rob Myles, Justin Clougher, Philippe Peche, and Jeff Dionne are also part of the 14 man crew.

Although one of the last boats on the water, prospects for other teams are uncertain. With a boat whose design is fast and quality sailors Team Adventure is a threat to win.
