Skipper of the VLM Club Med, Grant Dalton, has been fined $ 17,585 for  violating Rule 10 of the International Collision Regulations in the Dover Strait off England.

During a delivery from London to Southampton Club Med crossed from the NE to the SW bound land.  Essentially like driving a car the wrong way down a one way street.

In part Rule 10 reads: a vessel shall "proceed in the appropriate traffic lane in the general direction of traffic flow for that lane."

It also reads, "A vessel shall, so far as practicable, avoid crossing traffic lanes but if obliged to do so shall cross on a heading as nearly as practicable at right angles to the general direction of traffic flow."

With SW wind blowing Club Med crossed the lanes gybing downwind.  Several of the 17 ships Club Med passed claimed they had to take evasive action to avoid Club Med.

Dalton admitted responsibility paid his fine and is on his way with Club Med to train in Portugal.
