Today's Sailing NewsTeam Philips: More ProblemsTeam Philips has returned from sea trials less than 24 hours. The reason for the return is concern over the supporting structure of the port mast. Sailing in the English Channel the port mast base became unstable. The crew shored it up and headed for port. Next they will remove the 135 foot port mast to view the mast bearing. Once this is done they will know the extent of the damage. The team does not view this as a major problem, but as more of a precautionary measure. Mission America Needs a ProfessorBrad Van Liew's Open 60 campaign is giving people the chance to be on board for next summers L'Atlantique Challenge. A silent bidding process will determine who will fill the 'Professor' position for each leg. Winning bids will be contributed to the California Corinthian Foundation which is a non profit organization. During each leg, the 'Professor' will interact daily with students online through written dispatches and digital photos and video. Bidding is underway at the teams website. Bids have already been placed for 3 of the 5 legs. The bids are all at $ 10,000. Interested parties have until Thanksgiving Day at Midnight to place their bids.
