A wind dead out of the east blew hard from late afternoon all though the nite on Muskegon Lake.  For harbors on Muskegon Lake's south shore an east wind is the most dangerous.  This was proved again as boats whether on a mooring or in a slip were damaged.

Star Worlds

Race 5 saw the heaviest air of the event.  The breeze was from the south at 15-22 knots.

Americans Mark Reynolds and Magnus Liljerdahl won race extending their overall lead.

2nd were Italians Benamati and Maffezzoli, with Aussies Beashel and Giles 3rd.  All of the top 3 are former world champions.

With their 2nd race victory Reynolds and Liljerdahl now lead by 18 points.  2nd placers Macdonald and Bjorn of Canada did not finish due to a rig problem.  3rd are New Zealanders Brady and Gale 3 more points back.

With only a single contest remaining it looks all good for Reynolds and Liljerdahl.  With an extremely competitive 112 boat fleet victory is not certain even with an 18 point lead.

Playstation's Transat Attempt

With 1160 miles left to the finish line Playstation's finishing expectations are: "- they will probably cross the Lizard Monday midday - about a 7 1/2 day crossing."  This estimate according to the team meteorologist.

This would be around a day behind the record they are chasing.  The reference time is 6 days 13 hours.

For the voyage Playstation is averaging 14.7 knots.  

Playstation did make solid progress in the last 24 hours.  The 105 foot catamaran averaged 22.4 knots in the past 24 hours.

A jibe onto starboard will lead to a less than ideal angle slowing Playstation and preventing a record.

Playstation's voyage has been the most impressive yet for one of the yachts built for The Race.  The fact that a record will not be set shows the difficulty in setting a record on a well sailed path like the Atlantic.  Not only must you have a fabulously large and high tech boat, you must get breaks from the weather.  

Worrell 1000

Leg 10 of the annual beach cat dash up the Atlantic coast was won by Australians Brett Dryland and Rod Waterhouse.  2nd were Randy Smyth and Mark Struble.  Smyth and Struble still lead the overall standings by 32 minutes.
