Today's Sailing NewsThe Race: 2 fleetsInnovation Explorer is the current leader of The Race. 5 boats are now racing, with only Team Legato in repair mode. The upwind sailing has produced some wide splits at the front of the fleet. The top 3 are spread out east to west in the following order: Innovation Explorer (13° west) Club Med (15° west) and Team Adventure (17° west). Team Adventure (top 24 hour run of 252.6 miles) seems to be sticking her nose out west in hope gaining the advantage of the trade winds first. According to skipper Cam Lewis: "Here is the game; we are racing to a cold front fast approaching from the NNW so that we can get a wind shift when we arrive on the other side of the front tomorrow. This shift should see us change over to starboard tack and start making some fast miles south. "Back in the fleet Playstation finished renewing her sail inventory at Gibraltar. After 48 hours they are back at sea. Skipper Steve Fossett sounds determined: "At the anticipated pace of The Race, we will have to average 1/2 knot faster than the lead boat in order to win... but the entire Crew is game and so much can happen during an Around the World passage." Warta Polpharma is also back racing, with a new sat com antenna installed in Gibraltar. It remains for Team Legato to fix their mainsail headboard in Gibraltar and the fleet will be full again. They will be back racing Sunday. BT Challenge UpdateLeg 3 is Buenos Aries to Wellington New Zealand via Cape Horn. Today's Sailing NewsIntegrity's icy visit to MuskegonThe self unloading barge Integrity was at the Lafarge dock earlier this week in downtown Muskegon. Later in the week the American Mariner unloaded coal at the Cobb power plant. This will be the last commercial ship on Muskegon Lake for this shipping season.
Launched in 1996, owned by Andrie Towing Integrity was built by Bay Ship of Sturgeon Bay WI.
In 1997 Integrity set a record carrying 17,740 tons of cement. Integrity is paired with the tug Jackilyn M.
