Weather Report:  Will April break record warmth trend?

Last week we reported that 2000 has been the warmest year in 106 years as measured by average temperature from January to March.

With April 80% gone at least in Muskegon we could see some lessening of this trend.

The first 23 days of the month have seen the temperature an average of .4 tenths of a degree colder than normal.  Normally, this might not be of note, but then when the first three months of the year are record warm then any cooling is of note.

We'll keep you updated and see if the last week brings a sufficient warming trend to bump the average to above norm.  

British Olympic Trials

With the trials scheduled to end today, in the Mistral men's sailboard class Nick Dempsey has clinched victory.  Also, Iain Percy has wrapped up the Finn trials.

The 470 men's class is a duel between the 1st place team of Nick Rogers & Jo Glanfield
and the 2nd place duo of  Chris Draper & Dan Newman.  They are tied entering today's final race. 

The 49er skiffs are also seeing close racing with the team of  Paul Brotherton & Moray Gray 1st and 2nd place filled by  Ian Barker & Simon Hiscocks.  The gap is two points.

With the competition close in these classes the trials may be extended to ensure the best team goes to Sydney.

Kingfisher's Solo Voyage crosses the Equator

At 0850 GMT Ellen Macarthur sailed Kingfisher across the equator.  Kingfisher left Cape Horn 6 April.  Cape Horn was the intermediate port between Cape Horn and England.

The equator normal carries a ceremony in honor of King Neptune.  This is harder to do sailing solo, but at the pictures show Ellen Macarthur managed OK.

After crossing 'the line' Kingfisher was holding a course of 003° making a speed of 12 knots.
