News from the Race
The Race the no limits non stop, no assistance around
the world
race scheduled to start 31 December 2000 continues to
see developments. Several perspective competitors are
seeing advances in their programs for The Race.
Steve Fossett's 105 catamaran Play Station is the
latter
stages of repair. This due to fire damage in April. Upon
completion of repairs Playstation will arrive via ship 25
September on the east coast.
Once the boat is de-containered and ready the team will
go
on standby for an Atlantic record attempt. Plans are for a 10
man crew. Crew will include the boats designers Gino Morelli
and Pete Melvin plus Richard Branson. The full crew list

Besides Playstation their is new evidence of another
viable
US entry. This comes from the Hawaiian Island of Kauai. Here
the 118 foot trimaran Rave is building. The man behind the
project is Earl Edwards. Among the other names listed working
on the Rave project are: Jim Antrim as the boats architect and
Randy Smyth as rigging and sails designer.
From Britain comes a progress report from the Pete Goss
Challenge. In the UK Goss and his team have assembled the
first of the 38 meter hulls. The Goss challenge currently employs
45 full time folks.
