USA's Cup Syndicates get ready

This fall in Auckland the USA will have 5 groups attempting
to recreate Dennis Conner's 1987 feat of bringing the cup
up.  The USA will be the only multi syndicate nation.

The teams are in various stages of preparation with 83 days
to go before the initial trials race.  Here Sailing Daily presents
an update on each one and also the URL of their website so
you can do your own Cup reporting.

Young America- (www.youngamerica.org)   This New York
Yacht club affiliated group reports that designated skipper
Ed Baird recently placed 2nd at the Swedish Match Cup
match racing event. 

Young America plans to build two new IACC boats, both by
Bruce Farr.  Both boats are being built at Eric Goetz's yard.

America True (www.americatrue.org)   One of two efforts to come
out of the San Francisco bay area.  America True is ahead of
most of the other groups in a couple ways.  For one, their new
IACC boat has been completed and is actually in New Zealand.
America True will begin sailing the boat in late July.  They will
have as much time sailing their new boat in New Zealand as
anyone. 

Dawn Riley heads America True and says, "We’ve worked hard to
get here early, before the other challengers, so we could maximize our
boat's performance in real racing conditions."

Aloha Racing (www.aloharacing.org)   First of the USA syndicates
to begin a sailing program with their new boat.  Abracadabra 2000
which is the first of 2 boats for Aloha began sailing June 26th in Hawaii.

Aloha Racing has been issued sail number 54 for their second boat.

Aloha Racing recently announced that Abracadabra 2000 will be
featured in an episode of the TV series Baywatch.  Aloha Racing's
John Kolius describes the benefits of Baywatch this way: "That hundreds
of millions of Baywatch viewers will see Abracadabra 2000 sailing on our home
waters in Hawaii is an unprecedented media opportunity for both our team and
for our sponsors."

America One (www.americaone.org)  Second of the Bay area teams. America
one recently launched its first boat USA 49.  Currently USA 49 is being finished.
Once ready to sail America One will spend 7 weeks trialing their new boat
vs. One Australia which the team owns.  Their second boat will be delivered
directly to New Zealand.  America One's team is together in Long Beach
California.  The training is intense as team member Terry Hutchinson
describes: ". The day starts at 5:45 AM with our workout. Bill Bates leads the
troops through a grueling routine of cardio, free weights, and runs. Monday,
Wednesday, and Friday we spend in the local Bally's gym while Tuesday,
Thursday, and Saturday we go to the beach for one of the most difficult days
of exercise that I have ever experienced."

Once again Dennis Conner will be attempting to win
the Cup.  He has a new Reichel Pugh design under construction at New England
Boatworks.  Dennis says, "We'll be sailing in Auckland in early September."

Don't look for DC at the helm, but rather a combination of Ken Read and
Peter Holmberg.

From the fate and fortune department Stars and Stripes 2000 will carry the
sail number USA 55, the same as the 12 meter that Dennis sailed to Cup
victory in 1987.
