Tomorrow will see the start of the 75th edition of the Bayview to Mac Race. This is the races diamond anniversary!
This year the Bayview race follows the Chicago to Mac race. In even numbered years the order of sailing is
reversed.

Many of the same boats that just completed the Chicago Mac have sailed down Lake Huron to take another shot
at a victory celebration on Mackinac Island.

The Bayview features racing under 2 handicapping systems, and also features 2 courses. The difference in the courses
is that the Cove Island course rounds a bell buoy off Cove Island in Lake Huron's middle. The shore course
does not round this buoy and simply sales up the Lake Huron shore to Mackinac Island.

The Cove Island course will feature a solid fleet of boats. Again the Great Lakes 70's fleet will race under IMS.
They will be joined by RX Sight in the fight for first monohull to finish.

12 J-120's will race boat for boat in PHRF Class C. In Class F J-35's and T-35's will race on a level basis.

The 60 foot catamaran Stars and Strips will take aim at setting new Port Huron to Mac Course records. The outright record was set in 1985 by Jan Gougeon on a trimaran in a time of 1 days 2 hours and 9 minutes- an average of 9.96 knots. The big monohulls can shoot for the record held by the Reichel Pugh maxi Windquest. The time for the
monohull record is: 1 day 8 hours 13 minutes and 1 second an average of 9.7 knots.

Current forecasts call for southwest winds of 10-20 knots at the start. This is unusual as the race traditionally sees
a lot of white sails. If such a southwesterly would hold records could easily fall.

Great Britain maintains their lead. Their main fall off was in the Mumm 36's. The small boat of the fleet
is where the USA helped themselves the most with Chris Larsen steering Ciao Baby to a sweep of the days races.
The Netherlands is 3rd on the strength of their big boat.

Today will see the Admirals Cup sail their first offshore race. Racing for the Royal Yacht Squadron trophy
the fleet will sail a course that aims to be 44 hours long. The racing area will be the English Channel. Points for this race carry a multiplier of 2.5, making
big swings in the standings likely.
