Chicago - Mac is underway

The 1999 version of the Chicago to Mackinac race up Lake Michigan is well underway.  The boats started from Chicago Saturday July 10, with the first start at 1200 CST.  The fleets got underway in winds for 20-25 from the north and seas of 6 - 8 feet. 

By sunrise on Sunday morning, the winds had diminished to 3-5 knots, clocked around to the west and the seas were down to 3 to 5 feet.   By midday Sunday, the breeze had settled in from the south - southwest with flat seas - and a slight increase in velocity to 6 - 8 knots.

Stars & Stripes was the first boat to finish at 2323 EDT Sunday.  RX-Sight was due to finish around 0645 Monday, 12 - July. It is looking like a long, slow ride for the rest of the competitors.
