Dashes Toshiba's Whitbread Protest
During the just completed Sydney to Auckland leg, Toshiba claimed that race leader EF
Language violated the rules by not properly displaying her navigational lights.
However, the international jury disallowed the protest for a throughly 1990's reason: EF
Language never received Toshiba's e-mail notification of the protest. Further, Toshiba
also had a error message on her computer indicating ‘delivery not confirmed.'
The International Jury gave this as their grounds for disallowing the protest: "The
International Jury is not satisfied that Toshiba took reasonable steps to ensure that EF
Langauge was informed of the intention to protest as required by RRS61.1a)"
