Marty Reieck Passes Away
Our friend and Harken General Sales Manager Marty Rieck passed away from a heart attack while cruising with his wife Susie on board their trimaran "moose of a different color", the fourth "moose" boat Marty had was anchored in northern Lake Huron when Marty had the attack. They had just completed the Chicago Mackinac race and remained in the area to cruise. The Coast Guard arrived promptly after Susie's distress call and Marty was taken to shore and transported by ambulance to the War Memorial Hospital in Sault St. Marie. All efforts to revive him failed and he passed away around 11:00 a.m. on July 30. In lieu of flowers, Susie has requested donations be made to The Milwaukee Community Sailing Center in Marty's name. Marty was instrumental in the startup of the Sailing Center, an organization designed to introduce sailing to those who otherwise would never know this wonderful sport. The continued growth of sailing in our area was something Marty and Susie both felt strongly about and this will enable others to enjoy the sport he loved so much.
If you would like to make a donation in Marty's honor; the address is:

Atlantic Alone- Class 2 Winner and Wrapup Last Friday July 31st Cray Valley and skipper J.P. Mouligne crossed the finish line to clinch a Class II victory in the around alone race. He finished at 1303 Charleston time. This gave Cray Valley the record for class with a time of 26 days 6 hours 3 minutes and 29 seconds. 2nd place in Class II went to Magellan Alpha and Mike Garside. Garside took the wrong route on the approacht to Charleston and finished 21 hours after Cray Valley. Golding showed the hurt of losing saying: "The trip was fine, the result was awful." Further he said: "Winning, that's what I want to do it for." A final Garside quote:" Winning, that's what I want to do it for." Mouligne was much more light hearded saying: "I didn't think it was going to take 26 days." Suffice it to say that victory made the 26 days worth it. Still on the course is Shuten-Dohji II with skipper Minoru Saito. She is expected to arrive on Friday. Saito is not concerned with victory. Before the race he said: "All I want is very good sailing."
